New village hall brings community together
For the first time in its history Croughton is all set to have a village hall.

Work on the hall began on Monday, three years after the project was established.

The Croughton Village Hall Working Group announced finalisation of a contract for construction and the hall will be built on the village playing fields adjacent to the sport pavilion.

Trevor Davies, chairman of the CVHWG, said: “We held a needs analysis to question what people wanted the hall to provide them from sports, to arts and even an IT room. The project has cost about £600,000 and one of the major tasks now is to future hunting for funds to support the different groups who want to use the hall.”

“Its been a long hard task to get to where we are. Once the Hall is built I think a lot of people will appreciate what it will give. We said we wanted at least 50 per cent of the population of the village on the electoral register to support it an we have achieved that. WE are delighted and can’t wait for it to be built.”

The money for the project has been raised through sponsorship and fund-raising activities. In addition financial backing has come from South Northamptonshire Council, Northamptonshire County Council, the Parish Council, Croughton Village playgroup, plus a ‘substantial gift’ from a private benefactor.

Martin Smart, of Great Bourton-based Acanthus Clews Architects is project Director.

He said: “The whole building is about 500 square meters.

“We have been interested not only in the architecture side but getting involved with the community as well.”

The hall is scheduled to be completed by early summer next year.
