| Therapeutic
Workshops for the National Society of Epilepsy
The
new Therapeutic Workshops replaced a collection of buildings which
no longer met the needs of the Society. The new building, built
in Green Belt, is designed to create a light, well ventilated
series of large open spaces for the benefit of residents at the
NSE. They facilitate assessment training, an assembly unit, book
binding and printing in a contemporary workshop environment where
access for all has been a prime consideration. This building followed
on from the MRI unit and forms part of an ongoing aim of the Society
to provide a centre of excellence for the care of people with
epilepsy.
The
building is constructed of brickwork externally with large expanses
of glass and fair faced blockwork internally, with a timber glulam
beam structure, which adds warmth to the internal appearance of
the building. The perimeter glazing ensures maximum visual contact
with the surrounding landscape for the residents. The NSE commented
at the opening on their increased output from the workshops which,
whilst not a key aim, was pleasing.
