Our
experience in the field of conservation and renovation of historic
buildings dates from the founding of the practice in 1972. Our
work on ecclesiastical and secular buildings includes conducting
meticulous surveys for the Church of England and government Property
Holdings as well as working with English Heritage and the Historic
Buildings and Monuments Commission.
Our
main strengths in this area are an understanding of the fundamental
renovation requirements for buildings in the context of their
historic and environmental significance. The architectural team
comprises individuals with specialist knowledge of complex planning
rules, applications for government grants, conservation issues
and detailed technical feasibility studies which are central to
the approval of such projects.
The
practice conducted a resurvey of Listed Buildings for the Department
of the Environment that has raised our reputation for excellence
to one of national significance. There are many examples of our
work with churches and cathedrals - Michael Clews is architect
for Llandaff, Cardiff and Coventry cathedrals. Our specialisation
in the integration of contemporary design within an historic context
is also demonstrated by the wide range of restoration and renovation
projects of grade 1 and II* mansions and castles to the conversion
of country houses and other historic buildings.
