of Portsmouth blesses convent school’s new building
The recently completed multi-function hall and internal refurbishment
works at Our Lady’s Convent School, Abingdon were blessed
by the Bishop of Portsmouth on 22nd September.
The ceremony of formal mass and blessing was attended by Headmistress
Lynne Renwick. Bursar Simon Hughes, governors, staff and pupils
together with representatives from the Sisters of Mercy, who
founded the school in 1860.
Acanthus Clews were represented by architects Heather Clews,
Mark Smith and Paul Cooper.
In addition to the new multi-function hall with its formal entrance
and exhibition area, the work also included the creation of new
library and IT facilities on two floors, in the heart of the
existing school.
The project followed a strategic review and analysis of the
whole site by Acanthus Clews in 2004.
