| Library Project Shortlisted for Award
Internal Refurbishment works carried out on
the Grade II listed, Saffron Walden library building have been
shortlisted for an RICS award.
The objective of the project was
to update the layout of the whole library to meet the functional
requirements of the Library Service in the Twenty First Century.
Over and above this, the revitalised library needed to gain public
perception as an attractive, inviting and a desirable place to
be.
The old library was an uninspiring maze of
large static shelving within poorly linked spaces. This lead
to overcrowded rooms with confusing circulation routes between
them. The proposals have defined a hierarchy of spaces with clear
circulation routes and improved ancillary spaces for staff and
visitors.
The awards ceremony will be held on May 15th
2008.
