New use for listed Art Deco factory
Acanthus Clews have been entrusted with the conservation-based research and analysis of a stunning Art Deco leather factory in Northampton, leading to the production of an informed master plan.

The building is Grade II listed and boasts many original features in outstanding condition. It is still owned by the family who built it in 1939 for their leather business which is no longer viable.

Teamwork will play a vital part in the handling of the project master plan with each architect playing to their main strengths. Michael Clews will produce the development master plan, Andrew Salter will undertake a condition survey and Joyce Christie will be responsible for the conservation plan. Paul Cooper is assisting with the project.

The first stage will be an assessment of the cultural value of the building as a prerequisite to planning the reuse of the building and the site.

It is envisaged that the historic office area will be retained for commercial use while other areas of the site will have mixed use, including sustainable housing.
