| Alterations
and extensions to Grade II* Georgian house
This substantial
and highly attractive house has now benefited from extensive alterations,
extensions and refurbishment.
The main work
involved conversion of existing integral garages into a large
family kitchen, the building of a new detached garage, conversion
of external basement into a two storey conservatory, external
redesign and general repairs.
Particular
challenges were provided by the significant difference in level
between the front and rear of the building and the unattractive
integral garaging which detracted from the front elevation. In
addition the house is in a sensitive location adjacent to the
church.
The new family
kitchen was refaced in ashlar stone to match the main house and
symmetrical Georgian sash windows were introduced. The new detached
garage was built in the style of a stable with the upper level
having access from the rear at higher level. The two storey conservatory
sits behind and below the church wall to cause minimal impact.
Outside, the
forecourt was redesigned with a large central oval water feature
with impressive fountains to drown the sound of nearby traffic.
