Intricate
repair and alteration of Grade II house
Fulford
House had changed in appearance and character many times over
the years, probably starting life as a relatively small building.
A
recent change in ownership provided the opportunity for high quality
and sympathetic improvement.
Acanthus
Clews plans involved the refurbishment, alteration and extension
of this stone building. Included was the proposed demolition of
a Victorian extension which caused a significant planning issue
but ultimately this was seen as considerably enhancing the appearance
of the property.
The
Victorian extension was replaced with a new extension in keeping
with the style of the main house. In addition a bespoke timber
conservatory was added and a new coach house built for use as
a garage and for storage.
Throughout,
the client was prepared to invest in higher than normal quality
detailing which resulted in the practice scouring the local area
for examples of details like coping and quoins.
