| Restorations
to Empress Place, Singapore
The Empress
Place was built as a courthouse in 1864 and is one of the National
Monuments of Singapore.
Acanthus Clews
Architects were commissioned by the Singapore Government to produce
a report on the condition of the building. The study investigated
the effects of unsympathetic alterations and poor detailing. Air
conditioning and other modern intrusions had resulted in substantial
failure of the historic building fabric.
The report
included a thermographic survey and computer analysis of the environmental
conditions, which led to a major repair project. The building
is now the Museum of Asian Civilisation.
