New Coventry offices strengthens Midlands operation
Over the years, the Acanthus Clews office in Great Bourton, outside Banbury, has provided the practice's base for work throughout the South East and the Midlands. However, following Michael Clews’ appointment as Cathedral Architect to Coventry Cathedral, the decision was taken to have a dedicated office for Coventry and the Midlands.

The new office, in Castle Yard, next to the cathedral is effectively an extension of the Great Bourton office through sharing the same computer file server and intranet communication system.

The office opening also follows Acanthus Clews' conservation and alteration work in the cathedral's Millennium Chapel which was opened at the end of last year. The work was the first new build since the cathedral was rebuilt in 1960 under the auspices of Sir Basil Spence, the original Cathedral Architect. Additionally, following a fire in the cathedral early in 2001, Michael has been responsible for the work to repair fire and smoke damage.

An Acanthus Clews director, Martin Smart, together with two architects, Nick Arthur and Greg Dick moved from the Great Bourton office and were joined by staff recruited from Coventry. Michael Clews, who is also conservation architect consultant to North Warwickshire Borough Council, and Karen Green, finance manager, each have a base in Coventry.

This is Acanthus Clews' first urban office and the location makes the practice ideally placed for big regeneration projects in Coventry and other Midlands cities.
