School art gallery opened by Lord Heseltine

On 3rd September former Deputy Prime Minister, Lord Heseltine, officially opened the new purpose-built art gallery and workshop for Chenderit School in Oxfordshire.

The gallery, designed by Mark Smith and Paul Cooper and named The Michael Heseltine Gallery, is an exposed steel framed structure with fully glazed roof.

Headmaster John Childs had approached Acanthus Clews with a brief to design something inspirational and strictly within budget, for use by the school and the public.

The brief gave the practice an opportunity to create an exciting space internally, and to enhance the current main school entrance.

The new studio workshop is an open plan, single storey space, lit from above to allow large-scale projects to be undertaken.
