| Adaption
of formal estate farm
Charlock
Farm was part of a model farm complex built by the Duke of Grafton
in 1832. It is of a formal Georgian design comprising a farmstead
around a courtyard and is now a listed building.
The
brief was for the sensitive adaptation of this remote rural site
for modern living.
Over
the years some parts of the property had been lived in, some had
not and were in a state of disrepair. Some original features had
been lost and the yard had modern corrugated sheds which spoilt
its appearance.
The
work has had the effect of restoring much of the character and
appearance of the farm. The farmhouse underwent a complete refurbishment
and internal modernisation.
The
yard buildings were converted into a cottage with the reinstatement
of eleven stable boxes and a tack room. In addition a lecture
and recreation facility was introduced..
