The work to
the corridors has involved the replacement of fire doors and glazed
screens which were designed to complement the original Pugin details.
The installation of a new lighting scheme has improved the visual
quality of the spaces.
The boys
washroom to the first floor has been modernised as part of the
third phase. The new arrangement allows for improved individual
privacy and comfort. The facility includes baths, showers, washbasins,
urinals and w.cs. New washracks have been provided adjacent to
the washbasins, incorporating a personal storage space for each
childs washbags and towels etc.
The high standard
of finish has been maintained to these rooms. Surface materials
and details have been specified for ease of cleaning and maintenance.
The external architecture of the building has been improved by
the replacement of the inappropriate windows to the washroom.
In addition
to this washroom, the old urinals have been completely refurbished
to contemporary standard. Adjacent to the Matron and sick rooms
a separate bathroom has been formed for the use of a sick child.
The electrical
and mechanical services have been upgraded to all areas of work
and untidy exposed wiring and pipes have been concealed where
feasible. This has enhanced the visual quality of all rooms, while
helping to ease cleaning and maintenance. Implicit with the work
to the plunge area and the boys washroom was the removal
of untidy waste pipework to the external elevation of the building.
