Practice scoops design awards

Acanthus Clews won three out of four categories in the South Northamptonshire Design Awards 2002.

The Alterations to Historic Buildings category was won by Sulgrave Manor. The building provides additional accommodation to the Manor in the form of a separate new stone construction which features purpose-built green oak timber frames. The council stated: “Although the buildings add considerably to the accommodation on the site, they allow the historic building to dominate.”

The New Industrial, Commercial or Retail Units category was won by the headquarters building for Dogs for the Disabled charity. The building met the client’s particular needs for the disabled and was built with funding from the National Lottery Board. The council stated: “The building’s modern design was suitable for its function, with the internal architecture and design elements clearly thought through at an early stage.”

The Restoration of Historic Buildings category was won by Charlock Farm, part of a model farm complex dating back to 1832. The work involved the restoration and adaptation of the farmstead for modern living. The council stated: “A lot of forethought and research has resulted in a scheme which uses the right materials, is well expressed in three dimensions and adapts modern design and function to a living historic building.”
